History

The league was organized on August 5, 1895 as the Bridgeport Art League of Keramic Art. Due to growing interest in other forms of art, the name was changed to the Bridgeport Art League on June 1, 1903. The Bridgeport Art League was incorporated under the laws of the State of Connecticut on March 2, 1916. The League thereafter became qualified as a non-profit organization, 501 (C) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.


After decades in Huntington, CT, steps were taken in 2018 to make Shelton the home for the Bridgeport Art League. On January 14, 2019, Bridgeport Art League members voted to change their name to Shelton Art League in recognition of their adopted home.

Shelton Art league held its first meeting on February 11, 2019. Bridgeport Art Leagues' 125th season on September 2019 - June 2020 marks the celebration of its first full season as the Shelton Art League.

Welcome!

The Shelton Art League continues the legacy of Bridgeport Art League and welcomes returning and new members to its 128th season. Its members have a shared interest in the decorative and fine arts. Classes are offered each spring and fall. Monthly meetings held at the Shelton Community Center include include demonstrations by renowned artists, hands on workshops and lively conversation.
